Taking Care of Tanzanite

Tanzanite a brilliant bluish and purple gemstone gained its popularity in recent times. This gemstone gives a feeling of cool and warmth simultaneously. Tanzanite is relatively soft and is counted as 6.5 Mohs in the hardness scale. This is the main reason it requires extra care in respect of handling.


Taking Care of Tanzanite:
Tanzanite is sensitive to sharp blow and scratches. Hence, extra care should be taken while polishing and cleaning. Cleaning of the gemstone should be done atleast once a month.









First Step: Cleaning

• Mix very mild detergent in lukewarm water. The water should not be too hot as the rapid range in the temperature will crack the gemstone.

• With the help of a soft bristle toothbrush scrub the gemstone very mildly. One can also use toothpaste as an alternate to soap.

• Rinse well so that and see that all the sides are cleaned well.

Second Step: Drying

• Cover it with a soft cloth and leave it until the Tanzanite jewelry does not get completely dry.

Third Step: Storing

• Tanzanite jewelry should be store in separate pouch as it might get scratches if they come in contact with other hard gemstones.

• Cotton is used widely for storing the gemstones and the jewelry. Make the cotton layer in the jewelry box and keep the items on the top of it. Then if desired cover the items with another cotton layer. This protects the valuable items from all sorts of jerks.
